Renowned choreographer of Chhattisgarhi cinema Nishant Upadhyay (42 years) passed away late last night. He was unwell for some time and undergoing treatment in a private hospital. His funeral procession will leave from his residence at Gol Chowk Rohinipuram at noon for the Marwari crematorium. The art world of Chhattisgarh deeply grieves the death of Nishant.
Nishant was inclined to art from a very young age. When he joined the dance form, he faced opposition from his father. Despite opposition, he continued to engage in art. Then it was the era of albums. When Nishant got established, the father also acknowledged the son’s talent. From 2000, the Chhattisgarhi cinema flourished with ‘Mor Chhainha Bhuyan’. Nishant had an unbreakable bond with Chhattisgarhi cinema. He was the favourite choreographer of film personalities like Satish Jain, Manoj Verma, Santosh Jain and Lakhi Sundrani. Manoj Varma’s recent National Award-winning film ‘Bhulan The Maze’ had Nishant as the choreographer and also played the role of a collectorate employee. He was also good at acting. He played his first big negative in Sundrani Production’s film ‘Jai Mahamaya’ (2002). There has been an outpouring of grief and tributes for Nishant on social media since last night, which tells us how he ruled the people’s hearts.
