UNICEF’s statewide campaign ‘Mor Jimmedari’ concludes.

Raipur, 27 January 2022 – The 6-month long ‘Mor Jimmedari’ campaign to promote COVID19 vaccination and COVID appropriate behaviour in Chhattisgarh by UNICEF and Ekta Parishad, supported by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), came to an end today 


In the concluding ceremony here today, Mr Charandas Mahant, Speaker, Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly said, “amid fear and apprehension, Mor Jimmedari campaign was successful in building trust and encouraging COVID19 vaccination among the most vulnerable communities in Chhattisgarh.” He added that thanks to campaigns like ‘Mor Jimmedari’ that saved thousands of lives by motivating people to adhere to CAB and to get the vaccination.

The ‘Mor Jimmedari’ campaign was in response to the urgent need to promote CAB and vaccination to protect the tribal population across the state. The campaign was successful in taking the key messages to the remote hamlets and motivating tribal communities to take vaccination said Job Zachariah, Chief, UNICEF Chhattisgarh. 

By the end of the campaign, it reached more than a million people spread across 700 plus villages and hamlets and 374 haat bazaars. The campaign succeeded in spreading the key messages in prominent places like markets, bus stops, railway stations and places of worship. More than 1900 local elected representatives and 379 tribal leaders were instrumental in reaching out to people in the furthermost hamlets to share the life-saving messages. The campaign to protect the most vulnerable and marginalized communities from the COVID19 pandemic was launched in September 2021 to augment the government’s efforts. 

UNICEF in collaboration with Ekta Parishad, (Prayog), a social movement launched a state-wide campaign also to support elected representatives, religious and tribal leaders and other influencers to promote COVID appropriate behaviours and COVID19 vaccination in their respective tribal communities. The campaign was supported by youth, civil society organisations and other local influencers like tribal leaders, faith leaders, local elected representatives. The collectors of 23 districts flagged off the campaign in their respective districts. 22 members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) supported the campaign activities in their constituencies.
